Day 64 – August 6 – Blue Mountain Lake, NY to Ticonderoga, NY – 73 Miles

Today’s start was the coolest we have had since we were west of the Rockies.  Cool dry Canadian air had pushed into the area and it felt like a beautiful fall day.  I wore fleece under my rain jacket until our lunch stop at noon.  We felt well rested after our night camped out in the recreation center at Prospect Point Cottages.  Thank you Dave, Paul and Carol for your generous hospitality and shelter from the storm.

Our ride today took us through the heart of the Adirondacks.  There were many climbs but also just as many down hill runs.  For the most part the roads were in great condition with smooth surfaces and good shoulders.  There were however exceptions where the shoulder conditions required us to ride in traffic.  Particularly troublesome was a stretch of RT74 outside of Ticonderoga with no shoulder, poor surface and heavy traffic. Fortunately we made it through that portion safely.  The last few miles into Ticonderoga was a long steep downhill with the valley and Vermont before us.

We have not yet decided if we will visit Historic Fort Ticonderoga tomorrow.  We will take the ferry into Vermont as we start the last map section for our trip.

Am I watching too many Olympic races or is it the phrase ‘downhill runs’? Maybe it’s seeing Vermont. In any case this feels like coming to the home stretch and I’m excited for you. Stay safe. Linda/G’ma
