Day 49 – July 21 – Ft Wayne, IN – Rest Day

Rest days are always welcome.  We slept in, each as needed.  I had a desire to get the blog updated.  It had been a few days since we had had suitable access to the internet for making updates.  Every night I typically write the blog in an MS Word document, and prepare the images for the posts.  When an internet connection is available either via wifi or via a Verizon data connection on my phone I make a post.  For the past few days, that has not been the case.  Even at my mother’s house in Fort Wayne there seems to be issues with the internet service and I was periodically losing the connection.  I was finally able to make the most recent posts.

My mother treated us to a late breakfast at the Liberty Diner.  This is her favorite breakfast and dinner location in town.  The food is always done well, the service excellent and the portions generous.  We were not disappointed.  Even on rest days our appetites are big and the Liberty Diner portions fill them.

In the afternoon Dylan and I made a resupply run to the local Meijer Store.  On a trip to Summit City Cycles I was able to secure a new set of pedals for my bike.  It seems the annoying click that had developed over the last 3 day was a bearing going bad.  Replacing the right pedal solved the problem. Joe changed out the front tires on our bikes while Dylan and I were out on our run. My brother Bryan came in this afternoon and would ride with us tomorrow.

The afternoon and evening was spent with my Aunt Karen and Uncle Joe. They had prepared a dinner of smoked pork BBQ ribs.  Dinner was fantastic. Joe is a great cook and an excellent winemaker.   We indulged in his “Blue Barn” Merlot and Blueberry wines.  Karen and Joe have been following our trip blog and it was great to sit down and spend time with them talking about our experiences on the road.

It was a great evening.
